Parent Involvement

Daily contact with parents and staff will be supplemented by individual interviews, group meetings, open houses and parental surveys. You are encouraged to participate in the daily program. Our Board of Directors is comprised of both child-care parents and community members. Parents interested in volunteering on our Board of Directors should contact head officecreate new email.

Holidays

Our schools are closed on all major holidays. For unscheduled closings, check the Status Bar on the home page.

We observe the following holidays:

Healthy and Balanced Meals

Our daily meal menus follow the Canadian Food Guide requirements. A nutritious morning and afternoon snack is provided daily; while lunch is provided for our full day programs. Children’s special dietary needs and allergies are posted in all service areas. Snack and lunch menus are posted on the parent information board to assist you in weekly planning at home.

Most of our full sites are now fully catered by Food for Tots.

Age Groupings

Children are grouped according to age and each room is designed to meet the developmental needs of each child. Ratios for each group are in accordance with The Child Care and Early Learning Act.

  • Infants: 1:3
  • Toddlers: 1:5
  • Pre-school: 1:8
  • Kindergarten : 1:13
  • School-age: 1:15

Safety and health

Toys and equipment are carefully selected for safety and educational value. A stringent cleaning plan is maintained for all toys and equipment. P.R.Y.D.E. is responsible for meeting the regulations set out by the Durham Region Health Department, the Child Care and Early Years Act and the Region of Durham. Safety and supervision are paramount throughout our centres. Great pride is given to our clean environment and supervision plans.
